How We Started Camping

One nice Saturday morning in February of 2000 we were sitting around the breakfast table questioning what we would do when I retired. We didn’t know exactly when that would be, but knew it would not be before March of 2002. We both said how we thought it would be great to have a camper and travel around and see this great country of ours. We said the next time there is a RV show in town we should go to it.

That evening I was working at the computer with the TV on in the background and I thought I heard them say that one was going on that weekend. I check the Sunday paper and sure enough there was one. After church and a fast lunch we headed to the show.

Now the fun (confusion) begins. Up to that time I didn’t even know how to spell RV. Probably 25 years before then we rented a small class C for 2 weeks and 5 years before that we rented a popup for a week. That was the extent of our camping. Both of our families had Summer cottages in Wisconsin so that is how we spent our vacations.

We left the show with many questions. We didn’t think we wanted to pull the camper behind a pickup or large van. So we had narrowed it down to a Class C or Class A motorhome. We knew we had time so we would keep looking and studying to see what we could learn. We talked of renting one so we could get some first hand experience.

One Saturday we decided to visit a small camping/RV store in town. They had this very clean 3-year-old Georgie Boy Cruise Air class A motorhome. You’re right, we eventually bought it. For pictures go to the “Our Home” section. We are very happy with our decision and this machine.
